On some level, I believe every parent hopes that their children will be better versions of themselves.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">Unfortunately, the reality is that children\u200a\u2014\u200aespecially young ones\u200a\u2014\u200acan\u2019t be what they don\u2019t see. They have no frame of reference for it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">You\u2019re right to recognize that much of the work of <a class=\"markup--anchor markup--p-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/member.consciousparentingrevolution.com\/5-principles-of-conscious-parenting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-href=\"https:\/\/member.consciousparentingrevolution.com\/5-principles-of-conscious-parenting\">conscious parenting<\/a> is more about parents than children. You need to do the work of untangling your ingrained beliefs around approaching conflict, dealing with emotions, and <a class=\"markup--anchor markup--p-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/member.consciousparentingrevolution.com\/why-what-happened-in-your-past-affects-your-ability-to-parent-now\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-href=\"https:\/\/member.consciousparentingrevolution.com\/why-what-happened-in-your-past-affects-your-ability-to-parent-now\">understanding trauma<\/a>, so you can help your children do the same.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">This work can\u200a\u2014\u200aand should\u200a\u2014\u200atake place concurrently. You don\u2019t have to be a <a class=\"markup--anchor markup--p-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/member.consciousparentingrevolution.com\/5-ways-you-can-ease-working-mom-guilt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-href=\"https:\/\/member.consciousparentingrevolution.com\/5-ways-you-can-ease-working-mom-guilt\">perfect parent<\/a> to have a wonderful relationship with your kids!<\/p>\n<figure class=\"graf graf--figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"graf-image\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-images-1.medium.com\/max\/600\/0*5dIkREbbTOnclmGj.jpg\" data-image-id=\"0*5dIkREbbTOnclmGj.jpg\" data-width=\"683\" data-height=\"1024\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">When you acknowledge that you\u2019re exhibiting the same behaviors you\u2019re guiding your kids away from, be honest with them about it and have a moment of reflection together. Try saying something like.&nbsp;.&nbsp;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p graf--startsWithDoubleQuote\"><em class=\"markup--em markup--p-em\">\u201cI\u2019m so sorry that you have to see me behaving like this. Sometimes despite my best efforts, I mess up. You\u2019re allowed to mess up, too. But let\u2019s talk about why it happened so we can both move on.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">Kids need you to be the best version of yourself to become the best version of themselves\u200a\u2014\u200aand that process involves communication and accountability.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf graf--p\">It\u2019s a lot of pressure, but the good news is that you can get there as a family. Take the time you need to <a class=\"markup--anchor markup--p-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/member.consciousparentingrevolution.com\/is-your-tank-running-on-empty\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-href=\"https:\/\/member.consciousparentingrevolution.com\/is-your-tank-running-on-empty\">work on yourself<\/a>. If it means carving out time just for you, that\u2019s alright.
