Executive Perspectives Live, one of the top online business shows on C-Suite TV, is launching a new episode featuring Meerah Rajavel, Chief Information Officer at Forcepoint talking about the importance of cybersecurity, protecting our intellectual property, human capital, and managing risks.

Host Jeffrey Hayzlett talked to Rajavel about what executives need to do right now in regards to cybersecurity and managing risks. She said that technology is more than just software and executives need to understand that cybersecurity is not just a matter of ‘if I’m compromised,’ it’s a matter of ‘when.’ With digital transformation expected to deliver $100 trillion over the next ten years, executives need to be properly equipped to handle the speed in which they’re able to detect compromise, contain it, and eradicate it.

Rajavel also said that with $1 trillion spent every year in cybersecurity, there is still a 95 percent rate of success for hackers. But, what can be done to protect ourselves? Leaders need to identify what assets create more value for the business and assess the risk of losing your data. Any risk management should start with data protection. The reason failure is so prevalent, Rajavel adds, is because we spread everything too thin in an attempt to protect everything.

In order to fully understand cybersecurity and protect human capital, companies need to take a behavior-centric approach, rather than a threat-centric. Rajavel says that with hundreds of malware being created every minute, it’s crucial that we understand the behavior and routines of the hackers, rather that just the threats themselves. She adds that, “The more diversity (of thought) you have, the better your models are going to be when analyzing data.”

All episodes of Executive Perspectives Live are hosted by Jeffrey Hayzlett and can be seen on C-Suite TV.

Best-selling author, speaker, and former Fortune 100 CMO Jeffrey Hayzlett created C-Suite TV to give top-tier business executives a forum for sharing thought-provoking insights, in-depth business analysis, and their compelling personal narratives.

“Talking to Meerah was very enlightening. Knowing that most hackers actually succeed in their attempts to gain access to data despite the large sums of money being thrown at the problem was very interesting,” Hayzlett said. “Cybersecurity used to be something only big corporations thought about, but nowadays, it’s prevalent in every industry, big and small alike. I hope our audience listens to what an expert like Meerah has to say and take the necessary precautions to protect their businesses.”
