Q: Terry, you’re so prolific. How do you come up with the ideas for your writing, video, speaking and other content?

A: I tried wetting the finger, putting it in the air, that kind of thing. Didn’t work as well. But it’s kind of like what we’ve heard as authors, and as bloggers, as people who write a lot, and produce a lot of content, I think you have to continually feed your mind. You have to feed your mind with new, with good information, with reading a lot of good books. I think it’s really a great way to find out what’s going on, as well as a lot of blogs and listening to podcasts. Keep your mind open that’s the first step.

I like to have a page of where I put down all my ideas and just dump it in there. Hey, here’s an idea that I got here. Or here’s an idea. So that then when it comes time for my weekly column that I write for the papers that I write for, as a syndicated columnist and journalists for business journals, I find that what I do is I go back to that and that helps me get some ideas on what to do and where to put these together, and then make it happen.
